Barletta Says He Wants to Run…For Something

Mayor Lou Barletta

After running for Congress twice, and losing both times, Hazleton’s Mayor Lou Barletta now says he might want to run for Congress again. Or maybe for Pennsylvania Lieutenant Governor. He’s not sure which, yet, apparently. At any rate, in my opinion, Barletta is clearly not fit to serve in either position. His last campaign for Congress was based almost entirely on lies, misinformation, and intimidation. As mayor of Hazleton, Barletta has screwed the city into the ground, racking up huge amounts of debt. The prospect of him serving in any higher office is frightening.

As reported in the Scranton Times a few weeks ago…

Mr. Barletta, who was thought to be more interested in running for lieutenant governor next year, says he’s thinking about Congress again.

“Lieutenant governor came up as well” when he was asked, Mr. Barletta said. “I said I’d give it some thought. I’m testing the waters. But I’m actually leaning against it (running for lieutenant governor). … I’m not thinking more about running for Congress, just thinking less about lieutenant governor.”

The National Republican Congressional Committee, which aids Republican congressional candidates, is giving him the right of first refusal.

Mr. Barletta is promising an earlier decision this time, perhaps later this year. Last year, he didn’t make his run public until February.

So, it would appear, here we go again. If Lou Barletta is so hellbent on obtaining a higher political office, despite the fact that voters have twice made it clear that they really don’t want that to happen, that’s his decision. If he wants to add to the mountain of debt that he’s wracked up with his two previous bids for Congress, so be it. And if Barletta wants to embarrass himself and the Republican Party, again, so be it. However, if Barletta runs for a higher political office, I promise to do everything I possibly can to make the voters aware of what a horrible candidate Lou Barletta really is.

This website will remain dedicated to providing the facts about Mayor Lou Barletta and why Pennsylvania voters simply can not allow Lou Barletta to represent them in any higher office. The fact that this man has been put in a position to run a city (into the dirt…) is bad enough. He must not be allowed to bring his failed policies, half-cocked ideas, and racial bigotry to the halls of any higher office. It would be a nightmare.

As always, I would love to hear from all of you. PLEASE leave your comments expressing your thoughts on Mayor Lou Barletta and the prospects of him representing a larger constituency in a higher office. Whether you agree with me or not, I’d like to hear your opinion. All comments (except for obvious Spam or hate-speech) will be published to this blog, unedited. I also, from time to time, allow guest posts (posts written by someone other than me) on the site. If you have something you’d like considered for such a post, just email it to me. This site is meant to be an interactive place of discussion and I strongly encourage all of you to join in the debate.

All for now.

Another Lou Barletta Cartoon

Mayor Lou Barletta

This cartoon originally appeared in the Scranton Times (not sure of the date) a while back, by artist John Cole.  It’s a pretty good commentary on Lou Barletta’s immigration policies, I think.  Click HERE to go to the original cartoon, as it appears on the Scranton Times website.

Listen Up, Barletta Supporters!

Wednesday, May 7th, 2008

One of the things I’ve noticed since putting up this website is that many (most even?) of Lou Barletta’s supporters are just as single minded as Barletta himself. Almost from the day this site has gone live, I’ve been bombarded by comments and emails from people who seem to think that because I am against Lou Barletta’s run for Congress, that I am somehow a “bleeding heart liberal” or in favor of “open borders.” Sigh.

First off, I am not a “bleeding heart liberal”. I am a registered Republican and have been since 1999. I’ve served four years in the United States Army and am a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), Post 509. I am thrilled that the Republican party has selected John McCain as our candidate for the presidency and I look forward to voting for him in November.

Second, I am not a Paul Kanjorski supporter. I have said as much from the beginning. I am against Lou Barletta. I believe that his extremist immigration policies and lack of any type of positions on any other issue is just what the Republican Party does not need. He is a weak candidate with a solid track record of failure. If he were, by some miracle, elected, it would not be a good thing for the party. Yes, a Democrat would have lost his seat, however, it would be filled by a weak, small minded fool. Oh, and the Democrats will still have a majority.

Also, I am not an “open borders” supporter. I do believe that we need a strong immigration policy. However, the one being advanced by Barletta is unrealistic. It was, very quickly, ruled unconstitutional by a Federal Court. Also, Barletta’s immigration policy flies in the face of those being put forward by President George W. Bush and John McCain. What Barletta and many of his supporters are too close minded to realize (or in some cases simply to stupid to comprehend), is that Lou Barletta’s immigration policy is NOT the only one being proposed. The mainstream leaders (i.e. the President and John McCain) of the Republican Party both have immigration policies far superior to Barletta’s.

Hopefully, in time, many of Barletta’s followers will realize that both they, and the candidate who they so blindly support, are out of touch with the Republican Party, the state of Pennsylvania, and with the United States as a whole. That is why none of the Presidential candidates wanted anything to do with Lou Barletta. That is why Lou Barletta can’t raise ANY money for his campaign. That is why Lou Barletta lost the Congressional election the last time he tried to run (in 2002). And that is why I am so opposed to Lou Barletta’s candidacy for the Congress this time around.

PS
If you run a blog, or post a comment to this blog, and you don’t have the courage or backbone to post your real name along with your blog or comment, then please don’t get upset should I choose to completely ignore what you are ranting about. If you want to criticize me and this website, fine. However, try and have the dignity, class, and courage to put your name to what you say. If I can do it, hopefully you can, too. Thanks.

Greetings!
