I’d really, really like to use this site to talk about more than just Lou Barletta’s anti-immigration policies.  However, sadly, Mr. Barletta has no other issues for me to discuss.  All he talks about, ever, is illegal immigration.  He refuses to take a position on any other issue.  I’ve, repeatedly, emailed his campaign, asking for them to provide me with some details on issues such as The War in Iraq, Health Care, and the Economy.  So far, Mr. Barletta’s campaign has chosen to address these issues the same way Mr. Barletta has; Close your eyes and hope they just go away.

This tactic is nothing new for Barletta.  When challenged on anything, he rarely is able to provide either explanations or answers to questions posed to him.  Even on his own beloved immigration policies, he has found it impossible to explain himself.  When in court last year, as a result of the city of Hazelton being sued by several civil rights groups in response to Barletta’s extreme policies, he was forced to take the witness stand to defend his policies, all of which were later struck down by the court.  While on the stand, under oath, Mr. Barletta gave a clinic on how to make yourself look like a complete and utter idiot.

As reported by the Pittsburgh Post Gazette, when faced with questions about his policies, Barletta was completely unprepared.  He had no crime statistics, even though he had said that crimes by illegal immigrants were destroying his city.  He could not recall a single example of an illegal immigrant being given care at Hazelton area hospitals, even though he had said that illegal immigrants were “clogging” emergency rooms.  When asked about the number of illegal immigrants enrolled in public schools, Barletta could again provide not even one example, even though he said illegal immigrants were the reason for Hazelton schools being so overcrowded that some classes had to be conducted in trailers.  In short, Mr. Barletta couldn’t answer anything.

In the end, as most of you know, all of Lou Barletta’s anti-immigration policies were shot down by the courts.  The policies were found to be unconstitutional.  It didn’t help that Barletta couldn’t provide any meaningful explanation about why, exactly, these extremely harsh laws were even needed in the first place.  This is the type of leader Mr. Barletta is; a completely ineffectual one.  This is the type of incompetent leadership he is attempting to bring to the United States Congress.  This is why Lou Barletta should not be elected to Congress.

Today, I emailed the Lou Barletta Campaign via their email form on the Lou Barletta website. I requested that they provide me with some information on where Barletta stands on some of the most important issues currently facing Pennsylvania and the US as a whole. Hopefully, I’ll have an answer sometime soon. Below is a copy of the message I sent them…

I was hoping that you could provide me with some more information on Mr. Barletta’s stance on several important issues. None of them seem to be addressed on this website, for whatever reason.

Could you please provide me with details on Mr. Barletta’s stance on the following issues…
1.) The War in Iraq
2.) The current “housing crisis”
3.) Abortion
4.) The Bush Tax Cuts
5.) The rising price of home heating oil and gasoline.
6.) Global Warming
7.) Efforts to make I-80 a toll road

I am very eager to learn where Mr. Barletta stands on these issues. Thank you.
