Lou Barletta Has Been Stopped

The votes are in and I am very, very pleased to say that Mayor Lou Barletta of Hazleton will be keeping his job as mayor and will NOT be moving on to the halls of the United States Congress. For months, Mayor Barletta waged a political campaign that has relied upon lies, misinformation, and scare tactics. He refused to take stands on real, important issues. In the end, the voters of Pennsylvania’s 11th Congressional District saw Mayor Barletta for what he truly is: A narrow minded politician who lacked any real leadership skills or intelligent ideas for moving this country forward.
As a Republican, I would have liked to see a Republican take Kanjorski’s place, assuming that the person was someone worthy of representing both the people of the 11th Congressional District and the Republican Party in the United States Congress. Clearly, Lou Barletta was not that type of person. He has a proven track record of failure and during his tenure as the mayor of Hazleton, has drilled that city so far into the ground that it will take years to recover from his blundered leadership.
According to the Associated Press, Paul Kanjorski won the election by getting 140,119 votes to Mayor Barletta’s 130,649. This election was one of the most exciting and closest elections in the country. Lou Barletta came close to obtaining the title of “Congressman”, but, for the second time, came up short. I can honestly say that both the country and the Republican Party is all the better for it. Had Mayor Barletta been elevated to the rank of Congressman, he would have almost certainly have embarrassed both.
It’s getting late so I’ll end this post here. In the coming days, I’ll post some final thoughts on Mayor Barletta and my plans for the future of this site. I would like to thank everyone who has helped make this site as successful as it has been. Thank you to all of the bloggers who linked to this site. Thank you for all of the people who emailed me and left comments. Regardless of whether or not you agreed with me, I always respected your opinions and was glad to hear from all of you.
Lou Barletta has been stopped and that, I think, is a very good thing indeed. Good night, all.

Mission accomplished! “Sweet Lou” was stopped. It felt weird today,,,,,, being a Republican and pulling the lever for a Dem. It had to be done.
Please keep up with exposing the lies of Hazleton politics.

i felt the same way. as a strong supporter of our last nominee, i am many others worked hard in a campaign that had no money only sweat equity, it was difficult for me to vote for the man i worked to try to defeat in 06. but lou is not worthy to represent us.

I just wanted to thank you for this website. I grew up in the Hazleton area, was educated at HASD public schools, and still have many friends and relatives who live in the area. However, it, in part, the racist and corrupt policies of Lou Barletta that made me want to leave Hazleton as soon as possible after high school. It’s unfortunate the amount of racism and other prejudice I witnessed growing up, and to make this racism the law of the land is sickening and backward. Hopefully Hazleton will be able to continue moving forward instead of trying to remain in the past. I currently live in an area which has much more cultural diversity than Hazleton ever did, and I love it. I hope that my friends and family in the Hazleton area can learn to embrace different cultures. Everyone has something to offer if you let them.

I just found your website while I was searching for the results on last nights race for congress in the 11th District.
I’ve looked around your site briefly and I intend to look further but as you say your site was created so you can voice your opinions. So I guess I can understand why I can not find where you state facts on what you refer to as Barletta”s ‘failed track record’.
I don’t understand your fascination with illegal immigrants or where it stems from, perhaps you have family or friends that came to this fine Country illegally. It is clear that this is what drives you, not Lou Barletta, our political system or the good of the City of Hazleton. If you lived here (in Hazleton area) long enough you would know what illegal immigrants have done to a city that was already struggling to survive, let alone grow.
It would be great if you could provide some back up or links for the claims you have against Mr. Barletta rather than just your opinions; this is misleading. As you said, the race was very exciting and very close so apparently Mr. Barletta must be getting his message out to someone and they must agree with what he stands for.
By the way, you mention that Lou Barletta does not respond to your requests to respond to you, I don’t blame them for not responding the way you speak of him. You show your level of maturity with the name calling.
