Helping Lou Barletta Out…

Lou Barletta is having all sorts of trouble raising money for his Congressional Campaign. No one, it seems, wants to give poor, poor Lou Barletta any of their hard earned money. According to the Federal Election Commission (FEC), Barletta’s campaign has built up twice as much debt as it has cash on hand. Obviously, Mr. Barletta could use some help convincing people to give him their money.
So, I’ve drafted a letter that Lou Barletta and his campaign can use to help raise some funds….
Dear Voter:
My name is Lou Barletta and I am the mayor of Hazleton, PA. I’m currently running for Congress and I need your help. Actually, I need your money. As much of it as you can (legally) give. With your help, and all of your money, I may actually stand a shot at competing in this election. Please give me money.
My advisers, who work for beer and pretzels because that’s all I can afford to pay them, tell me that having a celebrity spokesperson can help raise funds. I can’t afford a celebrity spokesperson. However, I have been on CNN and Fox News an awful lot. They like to talk to me because I am all sorts of crazy and like to rant about the hordes of gun wielding, crack dealing immigrants who are constantly shooting up my town. And David Duke (from the KKK) supports me. And did I mention that I’m the mayor of Hazleton?
Send me money! I have a whole butt-load of debt that I built up from the last time I ran for Congress (and lost), so I need to pay that off. Along with the debt that I’m building up for this election. I spent over $11,000 on my website (www.LouBarletta.com) and I have to pay for that, too. I need money! The Republican National Comittee (RNC) usually gives candidates money, but since I am such horrible candidate, they won’t give me any. Which is why I need you to send me money. Fast.
I know that gas prices are sky rocketing, the cost of food is rising, and employment is shrinking. However, I believe that giving me money is more important than you eating dinner. Also, I’m so poor, that I can’t even afford to figure out where I stand on any issue in this election. Except for immigrants. I don’t like them too much. Send me money! Thank you.
Sincerely,
Lou (SEND ME MONEY!) Barletta
Mayor of Hazleton and Cable News SuperstarPS
If you send me money, I will even dress up like a clown. For real. I’m desperate.
With luck, Barletta will use this letter and it will help him raise some campaign funds. I offer this service free of charge. Not that he could pay me, anyway…

If you like politics, you will enjoy this….easy and very little time necessary to play…
I will post this here and in the http://www.Nepalibwatch.com forum.
Recently I stumbled upon an old online political browser game that I played for awhile a few years back. Forgot how muct fun it is. It is called Nation States and is the brainchild of Max Barry, author of Jennifer Government, a goofy fun read. Anyway this site http://www.nationstates.net allows you to set up a nation based on your politics and your responces to various issues that arise. It is very tongue in cheek but can be addicting. Once you get involved you will be amazed by the GIANT COMMUNITY that has sprung up over the last 5 years or so. They are even working on http://www.Nationstates2.com (go there and give them your email so you get invited to the beta test). The players in this game have figured out ways to go to war and generally back stab eachother. Once you create a nation be sure to look through the list of regions available to place your nation, I don’t recommend staying in the default Pacific. Anyway here is a peek at my nation:

I think you will get a kick out of it. You may create as many nations as you like, but only one of your nations may join the World Assembly(WA) [formerly known as the UN, but the real UN sent them a nasty letter telling them to stop calling it the UN,lol, go figure?]
Ok so there you are, and I am over here. But you knew that, a smart one you are…….
One rule, my rule, try not to dismiss any issues, no matter how bad or hard the choices are, just choose the lesser evil if you must. It makes the game that much more interesting. I mean look at my nation, do you think I really wanted it to be exactly that way? The issues form your nation, you must choose the best you can. This rule, again my rule, only need apply to your first nation, play around with several. I do think you need a separate email for each nation and again only one in the WA or they will delete all of your nations (puppets are the extra ones). Once ingame, post your nations in the http://www.NEPALibWatch .com Fourum and please send me a telegram ingame. And add me to your Dossiers (you will figure it out). Almost forgot, playing this game takes about 5 minutes a day…also goto settings and select the option to get 2 issues/day, much more fun…….later

Well, I think it’s worth saying that FEC contributions are only to be reported if the specific contribution exceeds $500. When a candidate is receiving donations from the average Joe he’s often not receiving donations larger than that amount, therefore the FEC does not receive/display the data. If a candidate receives, say, $500,000 made up of $50 donations, that data will not show up on the FEC’s website.
So before you use the FEC’s website as an end all resource to determine the “debt” Mr. Barletta’s campaign is in, you should take the systems intricacies into consideration. It is not an accurate method of judging a campaigns financial status aside from large donations from lobbyist groups and the like. It is certainly not accurate enough to write a blog article using it as your sole point of reference.
I think the fact that Barletta’s campaign donations have come from everyday people says more about what people think of him than someone who has received a majority of their donations from Washington lobbyists groups with agendas.

Apologies, I believe the actual limitation is $100. Still the fact remains, it is not an accurate method of tracking campaign contributions from the little guy which is what he’s been receiving.

All money received MUST be reported. Smaller amounts don’t have to be reported individually, nor who gave the money does not have to be reported, but the incoming cash MUST be reported.
If the Barletta campaign is taking in multiple small donations and not reporting them they are in VILOLATION of federal election law and the campaign treasurer can be prosecuted. I think the FEC should look into this since it has been implied that this is going on

I still think that Kanjorski is ripe for the pickin’. Barletta is just getting tooled up. He did not decide to run until very late, so it will take a bit for the cash to start flowing. This will all be moot come November when Lou unseats a man that has been sitting way too long…..
